Northrend Alchemy Discoveries

While my main character – the holy Priest – is a Jewelcrafter and Inscriptionist, my Mage who still sits at level 70 awaiting his (he being my only male toon) turn to be advanced is getting an opportunity to advance his professions regularly in the mean time.

As a Tailor and Alchemist, and not leveling at all, it’s pretty hard for him to get his own stocks, so I’ve been using my Priest and the Auction House to get the materials I need to level the professions in a cost-effective way.

Which Is Easier To Advance – Tailoring Or Alchemy?

As was the case in Burning Crusade, Tailoring was the more difficult of the two to advance from the vantage point of a level 70.

Why? Because herbs were expensive and rare at the start, but at any one time there’s a lot of herbs in the AH, which naturally begins the process of decreasing the prices over time.

But for Tailoring, one needs a lot of Infinite Dust to imbue the Frostweave Bolts in order to make the higher Tailoring-level items, and that stuff is both rare and expensive.

I haven’t been great at keeping track of it, but I’ve started to make sure I keep enough stocks around to complete the two Northrend Alchemy Discoveries whenever the cooldowns came up – one discovery of Transmutes that I get on occasion from transmuting Titanium, and one discovery of a Potion, Elixir or Flask that reliably comes from the weekly Northrend Alchemy Research that one learns around 400 Alchemy.

So far I’ve made a few Transmute discoveries, but none that were particularly profitable or useful based upon my current state of play and stocks.

I’m sure when the first content patch is released, there’ll be a whole big group of reasons that these transmutes will be more useful, but for now I just keep collecting the abilities, and when the need arises, I’ll have the skillz for the job!
