Fishing the Fountain in Dalaran

Have you ever been wandering around Dalaran, and come upon come upon the sight of a whole bunch of people fishing from the clear-water Fountain, and wondered why on EARTH they’d all crowd around that spot to do their fishing?

It seems ridiculous – 15+ people in one little area, casting and trying their hardest to pay attention to their bobber.

In Real Life their lines would tangle and any fish they caught would be puny and not worth the efforts. But in World of Warcraft, the only real hazard is that you won’t catch fish because you reacted to your neighbor’s splashing noises and not your own.

Fishing Achievements and Lucky Coins

The main reason these people are fishing are for attaining certain Fishing Achievements, although I’m sure there are people there who are merely fishing to level up their Fishing skill while in a city and able to gather rest bonus.

There are a few different Fishing Achievements that people are working on here – fishing up various editions of coins that were tossed into the fountain over the years. Copper coins, Silver coins, and Gold coins.

Most of the coins are grey in quality, and are simply trash to be sold to a Vendor for a few copper, but on occasion you’ll catch a Gold Coin, and those are special – you can “use” them which will toss them back into the fountain, granting you 2 minutes of “extra luck” for catching other coins.

The Final Reward

Once you’ve completed the three Achievements for the Copper, Silver and Gold coins by fishing up all of the different coins on the lists (and there are a LOT of coins), you get a letter in the mail, with an attachment:

Titanium Seal of Dalaran
which is a coin you can use forever to help you make tough decisions – Head up or Face Down style!
